About the role
At West Northants Council, we have an ambition to increase the active lives of our residents, and the promotion of the T1 Rugby Challenge supports this ambition. T1 Rugby is a non-contact form of rugby that still reflects the characteristics of the original game, but is designed to be inclusive, welcoming people of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels, with an emphasis on having fun! The key target audience is women, aged 16+ who have never considered rugby a sport for them. As an Active Lives Officer, you can prove them wrong! You will work to raise the profile of the sport, acting as a champion for the council by promoting the physical, mental and social benefits of leading a more active life for our residents.
What will you be doing?
Working closely with a range of WNC services as well as external partners and community groups, you will plan accessible and sustainable opportunities for women to try T1 Rugby. You will be involved in West Northamptonshire Council’s Women’s Rugby World Cup Impact Programme Working Group, where you will be able to identify barriers to accessing the sport, and then work on interventions to overcome these, including the direct delivery of activities when required. Alongside external partners, you will be promoting the awareness of the sport, and will represent WNC and the T1 challenge at local events, meetings and forums.
Having a passion for promoting an active and healthy lifestyle will be essential for this role, as you will be encouraging others to increase the number of people in the community and external organisations who volunteer with and champion T1 Rugby, as well as partnering with a range of public, private and voluntary organisations to promote the sport.
About you
You will be someone who has a genuine passion for improving the health and wellbeing of our residents, and this passion will enable you to inspire and encourage others. You will have great communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team, as collaboration and developing relationships with partners is a big part of this role.
You will have successfully delivered and designed sports/physical activity interventions before, ideally across a range of communities and underrepresented groups.
You will need to have a fitness or sports coaching qualification, and either have or be willing to gain a basic first aid qualification.
Further information on the skills, knowledge and experience for this role can be seen on the Job Description and Person Specification attached.
