About the role
The Highways and Transport Team delivers essential statutory services used by all residents of West Northamptonshire.
Their responsibilities include maintaining a safe and efficient road network, setting strategic direction for the future management of highway assets, public transport, active travel, and all road users, while considering budget limitations, legal requirements, and sustainability goals.
Additionally, the team ensures the local authority meets its duty to provide safe transportation for eligible students traveling to school.
What will you be doing?
The Active Travel Officer will play a key role in promoting and supporting active travel options for residents throughout West Northamptonshire.
This position will be instrumental in developing infrastructure, initiatives, and programs that encourage walking, cycling, and other sustainable travel choices. By doing so, the role helps reduce carbon emissions, improve public health, and ease congestion, while ensuring alignment with both national and local transport and environmental strategies
About you
We are looking for someone with proven experience in promoting behaviour change related to sustainable travel and transport initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and analyse data to support the monitoring and evaluation of schemes.
A sound knowledge of sustainable transport, active travel policy, and best practice is essential, along with a solid understanding of transport behaviour change methods and their practical application
