About the role
Now is an exciting time to join and lead this recently Accredited service. The Archives needs your dynamic input and determination to build on its successful Accreditation outcome and fulfil the recommendations made.
Any recommendations from the Historic Environment Record’s current audit process will also need to be implemented, together with the development of an innovative new HER web resource. The service has solid foundations from which the right person will be able to launch some exciting initiatives.
You will be required to be on site a minimum of 3 days per week at the Northamptonshire Archives Service office.
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will take forward a range of existing projects for the service as well as develop new ones using external funding opportunities.
Current projects include working with colleagues in IT to develop a digital archive repository for the council, as the first stage in developing a full digital archive; implementing plans to extend the storage space in the current building; supporting the completion of a Northampton Urban Archaeological Database project; and reviewing the software systems used by the service for online engagement.
About you
We are looking for someone with a broad and deep understanding of archives and heritage, including a technical grasp of the various standards to which archives and HERs need to work, especially in the area of digital archives.
You must have worked in a senior capacity in an Archives or Heritage environment, have staff, financial and project management experience.
This would be an exciting career opportunity for someone heading up a small archives and heritage service to move to medium-sized team, or for someone currently working as a deputy to move into a full leadership role.
