About the role
Property Strategy & Estates is one of the three main units of Assets & Environment and is central to both our corporate landlord role and transforming the Council’s estate to meet its needs and aspirations. Key current projects PS&E are engaged in include:
- Large scale photovoltaic roll out (solar energy)
- Office optimisation – rationalising WNC’s estate for the future of work
- Parks development strategy
- Large scale EV infrastructure roll out
- Estate Climate Strategy
- New care home
- New children’s homes
Our Property Strategy and Estates team are looking to recruit an AutoCAD Technician to this key role within our busy team. The AutoCAD Technician will provide technical support to all members of the team through the production, review and amendment of detailed AutoCAD floor and site plans of the Council's diverse portfolio of properties.
The AutoCAD Technician will also prepare Building and Site plans for inclusions with legal documentation (leases), assist with space planning tasks in support to wider service transformation objectives, and be the technical lead on the integration of existing AutoCAD plans with the councils’ estates management system.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team and support the Council's objectives of shaping an estates function that will be an example of best practice, and one that will deliver the best outcomes for the residents of the West Northamptonshire.
What will you be doing?
In the role of AutoCAD Technician, you will have the opportunity to work on an extremely varied and diverse property portfolio of around 1000 assets. Reporting into the Asset Records and Systems Manager, you’ll support the delivery of key transformational activity through optimisation and property rationalisation projects (including space planning) to ensure that assets are used to deliver the best possible outcome for the residents of West Northamptonshire.
Day to day, your role will involve:
- Undertaking physical inspections of the Councils properties to ensure that existing AutoCAD plans are accurate and up to date
- Carrying out measured surveys where required and producing professional and accurate AutoCAD plans.
- Assist with property utilisation / office optimisation projects by completing desk audits and space planning exercises.
- Prepare indicative scheme drawings to assist the Council to analyse and assess the development potential of any given site.
- Prepare Land Registry complaint plans for inclusion in legal, and other relevant documents.
- Support on queries in relation to boundary disputes
- Support the delivery of the Councils Asset and Insurance valuation programme through the timely updating and assessment of property plans and drawings.
About you
You’ll bring with you experience and expertise of undertaking measured surveys on a wide variety of property assets and creating AutoCAD floor and site plans. You will have excellent communication skills with a track record of liaising with both internal and external customers, and manage the delivery of a varied caseload of work to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, often to tight timescales.
You will need to have:
- Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics and complexities of public sector and the Local Government environment and its impact on service provision, staff, and relationships with key stakeholders.
- Organisational and time management skills and ability to plan and deliver objectives within an agreed timeframe.
- Ability to use AutoCAD to a professional standard, as well as the suite of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and Teams
- Have GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grade C or higher in Maths and English.

The council is in the process of implementing a new pay structure and terms and conditions which will be applicable to this role. The outcome could result in a future variation to the advertised salary, and this will be discussed at interview.
