Community Development Worker

About the role

We are looking to appoint a Community Development worker to join the WELL Northants Project team.

West Northamptonshire Council and Public Health Teams are taking a community-based approach to address health inequalities in Northamptonshire focusing on those who are most vulnerable. We want to:

  • To build resilience within local communities so that they are empowered to take action together on health and the social determinants of health.
  • Reduce the health inequalities faced by those who are most disadvantaged or excluded.

The Well Northants programme aims to empower communities so they can become more connected, more resilient and improve their wellbeing.

We have a 'Well' way of working -  rooted in social action, engaging communities, and building assets.

What will you be doing?

Building strong partnerships and collaborative ways of working with local organisations and services.

Engaging and empowering local communities to identify problems and issues that might be resolved by community action and support them in such initiatives.

Maintain accurate records, providing statistical information, evidence and community insight for reports.

Develop and work together with  "local champions" and volunteers to assist with delivery of local actions and projects.

Support the delivery and monitoring of community grants.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious person to join our team. You will have:

A good understanding of community development and experience of supporting the development of community initiatives.

Knowledge of the wider determinants of health and an understanding of social issues and their impact.

The ability to work independently, using own initiative within a community setting.
