Elections Assistant

About the role

We are looking to recruit an Elections Assistant who will ensure the efficient and effective administration of the electoral registration and election processes. 

Working as part of the elections team you will be help to provide an effective and high quality electoral service, for the organisation of all elections and referenda and for the delivery of voter registration under the Individual Elector Registration process. You will need the drive, enthusiasm and knowledge to take on this challenging role.

Working as part of the elections team you will be help in the running of all the necessary processes involved in the delivery of elections. You will be involved in the introduction of the provisions of the Elections Act, including the new requirements for providing photo ID in polling stations. 

Annual leave will be restricted during certain times of the year such as before and during election and canvass periods. You will be required to work additional hours during busy periods, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

What will you be doing?

· To help in the day-to-day administration of electoral registration, absent vote and voter identification activities, ensuring workloads are prioritised and processed in accordance with statutory requirements as directed by the Electoral Services Manager

· To support the Electoral Services Manager to ensure that the arrangements for the conduct of all elections within West Northamptonshire Council are efficient and lawful, leading on specific elements of the election process, as directed.

· To actively promote electoral registration and participation and assist the department lead in the implementation and running of the services Elector Engagement and Participation plan.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work well in a team, demonstrating commitment to colleagues, team objectives and collaborative working.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal with residents with sensitivity and tact.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver high quality work within strict deadlines

The council is in the process of implementing a new pay structure and terms and conditions which will be applicable to this role.  The outcome could result in a future variation to the advertised salary, and this will be discussed at interview.
