Finance Business Partner

About the role

At West Northants Council, it’s about our people and the difference they make. As a Finance Business Partner, you’ll play a key role in supporting senior leaders and services to deliver strong financial performance and sustainable outcomes for our communities. Working within our Strategic Finance team, you’ll provide high-quality financial advice, insight and challenge, helping to shape decision-making and drive value for money across the organisation.

This is a high-profile and varied role where you’ll work closely with Directors, Heads of Service and budget managers, contributing to strategic planning, service improvement and the delivery of the Council’s priorities. You’ll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged and supported.

What will you be doing?

You’ll act as a trusted financial partner, working closely with services to support financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, ensuring robust monitoring and risk management are in place. You’ll provide clear advice and analysis on revenue, capital and project activity, helping managers understand financial performance and make informed decisions. As part of this role, you will provide financial support and business partnering to Northampton Partnership Homes, working collaboratively to support service delivery and financial performance.

Alongside day-to-day business partnering, you’ll support the development of financial strategies and the Medium Term Financial Plan, contribute to closing the accounts process and help improve financial systems and processes to strengthen governance and efficiency. You’ll also play a key role in developing financial awareness across services, offering guidance, challenge and training to ensure a strong financial culture across the organisation.

About you

You’re a qualified finance professional with strong experience in financial planning, analysis and business partnering. You’re confident interpreting complex information and communicating it clearly to non-financial stakeholders, building strong relationships and influencing decision-making.

You bring a proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to challenge constructively and drive continuous improvement. You’re organised, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards.

Experience in, or an understanding of, the public sector or housing-related services would be beneficial, helping you add further value in supporting service delivery. Above all, you share our commitment to delivering high-quality services and embody our THRIVE values in everything you do.
