Financial Assessment Team Leader

About the role

Step into a role where leadership meets purpose. As a Financial Assessment Team Leader, you’ll guide a dedicated team to deliver accurate, timely financial assessments that directly support some of West Northamptonshire’s most vulnerable residents.

You’ll shape smooth, customer‑focused processes, drive service improvements, and keep performance on track—using data, technology, and your people skills to make a real impact. If you’re motivated by leading others, solving problems, and improving how services work, this role puts you at the heart of meaningful change in our community.

What will you be doing?

This position is based in Angel Square, Northampton. However, it offers flexible working arrangements, including remote work, office days, and service user home visits, as managed by the financial assessment team.

Step into a role where your leadership genuinely shapes how people experience social care. As our Financial Assessment Team Leader, you’ll run the engine room of the Financial Assessment Service — making sure every financial assessment is accurate, timely, and fully compliant with national requirements.

You’ll lead, coach, and develop a team of eight, creating a positive, high‑performing environment where people feel supported to do their best work. Day to day, you’ll keep workflows moving, allocate priorities, tackle complex cases, and ensure the team delivers a first‑class customer experience.

You’ll be the go‑to problem solver: spotting issues early, improving processes, and working closely with the Client Money Manager to strengthen performance across the service. From boosting efficiency to preventing debt, you’ll help drive smarter, more modern ways of working that make a real difference to residents and the council.

If you’re a proactive leader who thrives on responsibility, collaboration, and service improvement, this role puts you at the heart of meaningful work that truly matters to the community.

About you

You’re a natural leader who thrives in a fast‑paced, people‑focused environment. Confident in guiding and supporting a team, you bring experience in coaching, mentoring, and managing performance to help others deliver their best.

You’re organised, proactive, and great at juggling priorities, able to keep workflows moving, solve problems quickly, and handle complex queries with professionalism and diplomacy. Your strong customer‑service background means you’re calm under pressure, skilled at resolving conflict, and committed to providing a high‑quality experience for residents.

You understand the importance of accuracy and compliance, with a solid grasp of financial information, national legislation, and welfare benefits, or the ability to learn fast. You’re comfortable analysing data, challenging inefficiencies, and recommending smarter ways of working.

Tech‑savvy and confident with Microsoft 365, you embrace new systems and aren’t afraid to drive change. Most importantly, you care about doing the right thing for vulnerable people, treating everyone with respect, and modelling the values that help your team and West Northamptonshire thrive.
