Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

As a new authority, West Northants Council has commenced work to deliver ambitious new levels of service for residents and businesses in the area. These ambitions must be underpinned by strong internal controls, risk management, anti-fraud and governance arrangements.

We recently set up our own dedicated internal audit, risk management and counter-fraud team. Fundamental to delivering this is the appointment of a Head of Audit and Risk Management who will lead the team and further develop the service.

Interviews are expected to be held in the week commencing 24 July 2023.

What will you be doing?

This role will report directly into the Executive Director of Finance, hold a place on the Finance Directorate management team and be expected to regularly advise other senior managers in the Council.

You will be a key adviser to the Executive Leadership Team and the Audit and Governance Committee and will work closely with the Chair and Vice-Chair of this committee and the wider Council members.

About you

It is essential that you hold a full CCAB Accountancy qualification, or membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors or have experience commensurate with these qualifications.

Strong management experience and the knowledge to review, improve and instil robust controls and best practice for our new Council.

You will have political awareness and the ability to embed the recently implemented new structure, develop the staff within it and build confidence in the service to deliver the standards that our elected members, senior officers, businesses and residents desire and expect.

In return we offer excellent working conditions and a benefits package including a generous holiday entitlement, a comprehensive pension scheme, flexible working and access to an employee benefits scheme offering discounts on purchases from numerous retail outlets.

Please submit your CV,  and a supporting statement, no later than midnight on 14 July 2023. Please ensure that they are saved and submitted as one document.
