About the role
West Northamptonshire Council is looking to appoint a Historic Environment Record Assistant to contribute to the Archives and Heritage Team’s work to maintain and enhance Northamptonshire’s Historic Environment Record.
The HER Assistant will assist the Historic Environment Record Officer in the successful delivery and maintenance of the Historic Environment Record (HER) for Northamptonshire. The HER is a key resource for information on archaeological sites, historic buildings and landscapes in Northamptonshire. It is used to help formulate conservation and planning advice for the county, but can also provide fascinating information about individual towns or villages.
What will you be doing?
You will act as a first point of contact for HER enquiries from a wide variety of internal and external organisations, as well as the public. You will provide expert advice with regards to the information contained in the records as well as dealing with planning-related enquiries. You will work with the HER Officer to ensure that the information held in the HER is up to date, accurate and readily accessible, inputting data from a wide variety of sources, including reports, journals and plans.
About you
You will have a good knowledge of British archaeology, preferably with a degree in Archaeology or a related discipline. Ideally you might have some experience of working on archaeological excavations and of the processes and reports generated.
You must have good ICT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and experience of using and developing databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You will have a fine attention to detail and a methodical and consistent approach to your work with good written and verbal communication skills.
A job description and person specification is attached. Please ensure that your application addresses the criteria on the person specification.
