Housing Allocations Officer

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join our Housing Solutions service at West Northants Council! We have recently introduced a new team structure, as well as a new Housing Allocations Scheme which came into place in April this year, meaning you can play an integral role in shaping and embedding processes, with plenty of opportunity to learn and progress.

This is offered on a 12 Month fixed-term contract.

What will you be doing?

Working in a team of 8, you will be delivering an efficient housing allocation service using the Open Housing system, making sure the Council’s housing register is administered in accordance with the Council’s Housing Allocation Scheme, service procedures, and national legislation and guidance. You will assess and prioritise new applications to the housing register, support customers placing bids on properties, and shortlisting bids. You will also be providing comprehensive housing advice and information to households in housing need, ensuring that households are supported with appropriate interventions, so excellent communication skills are a must!

About you

You don’t need experience across all aspects of the job as that will form part of your development journey, but you will need experience of working within housing and conducting complex investigations and enquires in order to assess applications for assistance under housing legislation, as this is central to the role.

You’ll need to have a solutions driven and adaptable approach to working, thrive in a busy environment with a positive approach to challenges!

You will have previous experience providing excellent advice and assistance to a wide range of people who may have complex and challenging behaviour, and you will have worked collaboratively with other organisations to meet these complex needs. You will be able to smoothly manage the Allocations processes whilst being able use your own initiative to 'think outside of the box’. Please note, this role is based in Northampton but will require occasional travel within West Northants.
