Major Sports Events Manager

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join West Northamptonshire Council's Sport, Leisure & Culture Service in a new post as Major Sports Events Manager.  

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Sport, Leisure & Culture in attracting major events in West Northamptonshire, with economic & cultural value and legacy impact.

The Council has an ambition to develop a pipeline of major sports events, providing a rolling programme that delivers the councils ambition to become a recognised host of leading sporting events.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and management of partner relations and logistics required to deliver safe, high standard major events across West Northamptonshire.    

What will you be doing?

The post holder will be supporting the Head of Sport, Leisure & Culture to build a pipeline of major sports events, leading on the procurement of services and contracts required to host and deliver sports events.  

As a lead officer joining the service area's management team you will be representing the council with your knowledge and experience in the sports events sector.  

You will lead all elements of the event from planning through to delivery and evaluation, co-ordinating with colleagues and partners to ensure the safe delivery of high standard major events in West Northamptonshire.

About you

The post holder should have technical industry knowledge and experience including acquisition, planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of major events. 

An advantage but not essential is experience of working for and with Local Authorities. 

A keen interest in sport and an understanding of the wider benefits hosting major sports events provide to Local Authorities will aid the successful candidate.

You will be skilled in partnership working, budget management, reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
