Museum Learning Facilitator

About the role

Northampton Museum & Art Gallery is located in the centre of Northampton. Spread over 3 floors it tells the history of Northampton, has two art galleries, a temporary exhibition space and the shoe gallery which houses the Designated shoe collection. With a purpose built education space the museum hosts visits from a range of schools, colleges and universities. Abington Park Museum, set in Northampton’s premier park tells the story of the local area and houses the Northamptonshire Regiment and Northamptonshire Yeomanry collections.

As a Museum Learning Facilitator, you will be crucial in the delivery of our school’s education programme. You’ll deliver primary school programmes linking to subjects including science, history, geography and art and design. You will be responsible for preparing, setting up and delivering active learning sessions to school children in both museums and as part of our outreach programme to schools.

We are now looking to supplement our team of learning facilitators to deliver these sessions.

What will you be doing?

You will deliver formal museum learning sessions for children from ages 0 - 19 years of all levels and abilities. Sessions link directly to the National Curriculum and all include the use museum objects from the collections of history, art and shoes.  Sessions include Shoe History, Fire of Northampton, Toys and Egyptians.

Sessions take place at both Northampton Museum & Art Gallery and Abington Park Museum. We also have an outreach programme with sessions taking place in schools.

You will be required to set up, and pack away all learning materials.

About you

You will be an energetic and enthusiastic individual, who is a highly effective communicator; with previous experience of delivering learning activities for a range of different ages and abilities of children.

You will have a good understanding and experience of object-based learning and an awareness of the National Curriculum; good interpersonal and presentation skills are essential as is the ability to be creative and imaginative.

The council is in the process of implementing a new pay structure and terms and conditions which will be applicable to this role.  The outcome could result in a future variation to the advertised salary, and this will be discussed at interview.
