About the role

We have an exciting opportunity within the West Northants Council (WNC) for an individual to join our Specialist Moving and Handling Therapy Team which consists of Occupational Therapists, Moving and Handling Assessors and Reablement Support Workers (RSW’s). We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our developing team. The Team is well established, has a high profile and is highly respected.

The Specialist Moving and Handling Team are experts in of moving and handling of people with access to the latest equipment and techniques and knowledge to support those that require care. Our aim is to improve how care is delivered through a person-centred approach. We strive to improve comfort and dignity for the person, reduce the amount of moving and handling and promote independence and autonomy where possible. Our emphasis is on the quality of care being delivered and making it a positive experience for the individual being cared for. We work closely with our colleagues across health and social care, provider care agencies and are highly respected and valued team at WNC

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will work as part of the team undertaking assessments, planning interventions to optimise independence and autonomy, maintaining a caseload, implementing intervention plans. There are RSW’s support to maximise the effectiveness of those planned interventions, providing feedback to the person, family, and therapists, writing notes, reports, following up suitable equipment to enable independence and autonomy  and where appropriate organise for its provision and instruct on safe use, to achieve the best outcomes for the people of West Northants.

About you

The successful candidate will be taking a “hands on” approach, it is essential that you will be a strong team player, with excellent communication skills. You must have excellent organisational and time management skills. They will also need to establish effective communication and liaison with their team and other Therapy, Social Workforce, Care staff members, third sector and family members of people being supported by the team.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop highly effective and complex skills in moving and handling, develop their careers, opportunities to show their leadership skills with West Northants Council and they will be expected to provide a student with a placement experience from time to time from our local university.  

You will need to have experience of working with people, in addition, you will need to be committed to achieving the best outcomes for the people of West Northants.

You must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council.
