Senior Litigation Lawyer (Criminal)

About the role

Would you like to join a local authority where you can progress your legal career and be supported to excel professionally? If so, join the Legal Team at West Northants Council, one of the newest and the fourth biggest Unitary Council in England.

You will ideally have at least two years’ post qualification experience in the relevant areas of local government law, prosecutions, regulatory and general litigation and be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister.

If you are proactive, organised and want to work in a fast-paced environment then you may be the person that we are looking for.

For more information, please contact Nicki Agalamanyi, Head of Legal (Corporate & Place) on 07901 931853 for a confidential discussion.

What will you be doing?

You’ll take a leading role in delivering high‑quality criminal and regulatory litigation for the Council, managing a varied caseload and operating at a trusted senior level within the organisation. Acting as an in‑house advocate, you’ll represent the Council in courts and tribunals, advise Members and senior officers, and provide clear legal guidance at committee.

Alongside your casework, you’ll support the Principal Lawyer, contribute to the development of the legal team, and play an active part in shaping a modern, flexible legal service that supports both personal growth and long‑term career progression.

About you

You’re a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with solid litigation experience and the confidence to manage complex matters through to resolution. You enjoy taking ownership of your work, communicating clearly with a wide range of stakeholders, and balancing advocacy with practical, solution‑focused advice. Collaborative and resilient, you’re motivated by the opportunity to develop your career in a supportive environment that values flexibility, professional development and the chance to make a meaningful impact through public service.
