About the role

West Northamptonshire Council delivers a broad range of critical services to residents across the authority, from Adults Social Care, Public Health, Housing Solutions to running libraries and leisure centres, major highways schemes and refuse collection. 

The Business Intelligence and Population Insights Team (BIPI) delivers data analysis and insights that support council leadership and staff to make informed business decisions. This begins with the collection of data from a range of systems databases, and other internal and external data sources. We provide a support function for some of the systems used within BIPI and more widely in the organisation. 

Our development plans include exploration of new self-service data visualisation and analytical tools, including reviewing and potentially replacing the existing data warehouse and implementation of Power BI. 

We are looking for someone to join us who has excellent customer care and communication skills, and experience at supporting the implementation of new systems. 

What will you be doing?

You will be undertaking information management and data quality tasks across a number of council services’ databases. These currently include adults social care, public health, early help and education, and children’s social care, but may expand to include other areas moving forward. 

You will work closely with others in the BIPI team, IT, and service areas, providing administration, training, guidance and support to enable staff to use database applications. You will process and respond to incoming communication via telephone and email, and complete incident and service request investigation and resolution. Liaising with internal colleagues and third party software providers to resolve queries and establish the correct information to maintain accuracy in databases. 

You’ll have the opportunity to work on joint projects with services to scope, design, test and implement system improvements and offer guidance and support. 

About you

We are looking for someone experienced at working with database applications, who is proactive, able to manage their own workload effectively, and has a self-reliant approach to problem solving.  

Good communications skills are essential, as is the ability to understand and pragmatically resolve database queries from service users, escalating where necessary and ensuring high levels of customer service. 

You will need:  

  • Self motivated, organised and able to use own initiative, able to communicate effectively and work as part of a team 

  • Able to work flexibly and meet deadlines 

  • Problem solving skills 

  • Excellent Customer care skills with substantial experience of client/user contact in a variety of situations  

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build strong working relationships across the organisation to ensure a collaborative approach to Business Intelligence activities, explaining technical changes to systems to stakeholders not of a technical background. 

  • Experience of using database applications
