Waste Performance Officer

About the role

The Waste Management Team at West Northants Council is seeking to recruit a Waste Performance Officer. In this role you’ll provide expert technical waste support, meeting the needs of the waste management service, organisational and customer requirements.  This is a contract management role for major waste contracts, such as household waste recycling centres, closed landfills, and residual waste treatment.

What will you be doing?

You’ll work with colleagues to proactively manage waste contracts within the waste management service to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost effective management of municipal waste. You’ll manage and assess complex waste related situations ensuring the use of appropriate waste contract monitoring against service standards and proactively build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You’ll also be involved in the mobilisation of new key contracted services commencing 1st April 2025, reviewing the specification requirements and implementing robust systems to audit new services, both operationally and through the contractual performance measurement frameworks.  Experience and understanding the processes involved in the procuring of new waste contracts would be desirable

About you

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of working within a waste related field providing waste management services and managing the performance and service delivery via current and future contracts. Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have excellent time management skills and be able to manage complex workloads to prioritise, set deadlines, and cope with conflicting and changing demands. Applicants should have a strong customer focus, organisational and management skills, along with knowledge and experience of overseeing health and safety in an operational environment and of managing and resolving technical waste issues.

An excellent communicator, you will demonstrate a proven ability to negotiate, influence and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
