As a Council Tax Billing Officer, you’ll make a real difference by keeping Council Tax information accurate, up to date and easy to understand. You’ll handle the full range of billing tasks — from processing discounts, exemptions and changes in circumstances to issuing timely bills — while providing clear, supportive customer service by phone, email and in person. Your work will help maximise income for essential local services and ensure residents receive a fair, efficient experience.

What will you be doing?
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for managing Council Tax billing – maintaining accurate account records, issuing bills, applying discounts, exemptions, and reductions, and ensuring charges comply with current legislation. You’ll liaise with internal teams and external agencies to keep property and billing information up to date.
You’ll also provide advice and support to residents, helping them understand their charges and access the right support, all while contributing to the smooth and efficient collection of vital local revenue.
About you
We’re looking for someone with:
- Experience in a Revenues environment, ideally with a background in Council Tax billing and administration.
- A solid understanding of relevant legislation and procedures, with the ability to interpret complex rules accurately.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills to explain billing information clearly and professionally to customers and stakeholders.
- Confidence using revenues systems (ideally MRI Revenues & Benefits) and Office 365 tools.
