Shift Lead (Senior Carer) - Longlands Care Home

About the role

As a Shift Lead, you’ll be at the heart of the home – leading your team, shaping each shift, and making sure every resident receives safe, compassionate, and high-quality care.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you’ll lead and coordinate your team throughout each shift, making sure workloads are organised, priorities are clear, and any challenges are quickly and confidently resolved. You’ll be the go-to person on shift – making decisions, supporting colleagues, and keeping everything running smoothly.

You’ll be hands-on in delivering practical, personal and emotional care, ensuring each resident receives support tailored to their individual needs and care plans. From administering medication safely to keeping accurate records, updating care plans, and contributing to reviews, you’ll play a key role both on the floor and behind the scenes.

You’ll also take ownership as a key worker, helping residents access the services and support available to them, while promoting independence and wellbeing. Alongside this, you’ll ensure a safe, positive environment for everyone by following health, safety and safeguarding practices at all times, and making sure high standards of care are consistently delivered.

This role offers a varied working pattern, including 12-hour shifts, a mix of early and late shifts, and alternate weekend working, providing flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

About you

You’ll have previous experience working in adult health or social care and an understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and current care standards. Ideally, you’ll hold an NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) and be confident working flexibly across a range of shifts.

It would be great if you also have experience with administering and managing medication within a residential or dementia care setting, and are working towards your NVQ Level 3.

Please note, if you do not live locally to Daventry, public transport links can be limited, particularly given the shift patterns for this role.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate, at our cost. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Unfortunately, this role does not meet the legal requirements for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
